Finally- legislation to protect your right to know about the science behind supplements

This needs to be enshrined in law never to be able to be changed or manipulated by Big Pharma, Big food, FDA, politicians on payrolls, genetically mutilated food perpetrators.

Drug/pharmaceutical companies through their proxies should not dictate what health remedies/cures you choose.
Everyone has a right to fresh water, fresh and natural foods and natural health choices, this should be not negotiable.......more

What is so great about stretching?

When you talk about fitness and exercise, many people ignore one important aspect of a healthy fitness regime, stretching every day.

While it is important to get enough cardiovascular and weight bearing exercise every week, it's also extremely important to stretch.

That is right! No matter what your age or activity level, stretching should be a part of your daily routine.

What is so great about stretching?

Well, as we age we have less range of motion in our joints, and our muscles also become tighter. If you are like many people, at one time or another you've probably bent over to pick up something you have dropped and realized that it was not as easy as it once was. Maybe you are not quite as limber as you used to be, or you have lost some range of motion.

People who stretch on a regular basis enjoy the benefits of more flexible muscles and joints, which gives them increased function.

One of the best things about stretching is that everyone can do it, and everyone should do it every day. You do not have to be incredibly fit to stretch, nor do you have to have tons of time. There is no excuse not to stretch. Many people do it and do not even realize they are doing it.

So when should you stretch?

Always do it in the morning right when you get up. It is also a good idea to stretch right before you go to bed. Stretch while you are watching television, at your desk or computer, or even while doing chores like making dinner or folding laundry. If you have been exercising you have a natural tendency to stretch out more frequently.

If you participate in cardiovascular or weight bearing exercises, stretch both before and after your workouts to keep muscles and joints warm, limber, and injury free. In the beginning of exercise you want to warm up large muscle groups with big body movements. You do not want to take it to the end range of your joints. This may cause an injury or strain on the muscle tissues. At the end of a workout, when your body is all warmed up you can really stretch to the limits. Especially after lifting weights when you do a lot of stretching you lengthen your muscle fibers, and this actually makes you stronger.

In addition to keeping joints and muscles in good shape, there are other benefits to stretching. Stretching enhances muscle coordination, and also increases blood circulation. Stretching also breaks up and prevents the formation of fibrous adhesions that form in the tissues. This scar tissue leads to pain and other symptoms. Stretching also increases your energy levels. Not to mention stretching just feels great!

So be kind to your muscles and joints and add stretching to your daily routine. In addition to stretching, treat your muscles and joints right by taking care of your spine. Getting chiropractic adjustments on a regular basis helps to ensure your spine is in proper alignment. When your spine is in line your body will function at its highest possible level, and that will ensure your muscles don't get tight.

Should I Be Worried About the Caffeine in Green Tea?

It seems to be that we are increasingly being made aware of what some ingredients like caffeine are doing to our health. It’s a sign of the times, that the food and drink we consume is coming under more and more scrutiny. Legions of nutritionists and food experts are always giving us advice and tips on what to avoid and often it’s just a case of following our common sense.
So, when I was told I may have to avoid caffeine in what I drink because of a treatment I was under, I learnt that my daily cuppa was on the list of items to cut back on or avoid. As I actually enjoy a cup of refreshing and invigorating green tea I tend to make a brew three or four times a day. This advice prompted me to find something out about caffeine in green tea.
Well, it definitely has less than coffee, about a quarter of whats in coffee when compared on a cup by cup basis. I then focused my attention on the levels of caffeine in normal green tea and the decaffeinated variety. A curious fact emerged which stated that decaffeinated green tea does indeed have lower levels of antioxidants and flavenols. These are all important compounds and substances within it, that are linked to many of the claimed health benefits we get when drinking it.
Some clam this can be simply overcome by drinking more of the decaffeinated green tea to make up for any perceived shortfall in these nutrients.
There are also many people that drink green tea as part of their dietary regime and weight loss program. Again it’s these same substances, known as catechins that play a part in reducing levels of body fat by raising our metabolic rate. That’s essentially the rate at which we burn up the food we eat. Here again, the decaffeinated green tea was less effective at this level than the normal tea which contained caffeine.
So, while those of us who don’t mind the caffeine in green tea can carry on as usual with next to nothing to worry about, the others who do mind need to weigh up the pro’s and con’s.

Natural Treatments Showing Promise for Diabetes

It’s not unusual that diabetes is thought of as one of the most deadly diseases that we’re living with today. Diabetes is the primary cause of blindness among adults in the U.S.. Thousands of people are blinded each year because of this disease. Hundreds of thousands of limb amputations have been performed on diabetic patients in order to save their lives. Most of the patients in hospitals that are waiting for liver transplants, need the transplant because diabetes has ravaged their own. And, if left untreated, diabetes can lead to impotency, nerve loss, hypertension, and many more life-threatening illnesses.

In the normal course of events, when a person is told by his doctor that he has diabetes, his doctor will prescribe one or more pharmaceutical drugs to help them control their disease. But many people are looking for natural diabetes cures as well. Here are a few that have been used through the centuries:

Bitter gourd - this is a tropical plant, also known as bitter melon or kerela. Originally grown in Southeast Asia, China, and Africa. You can find it in most health stores. Some health articles recommend taking one tablespoon of bitter gourd daily, on an empty stomach, to reduce your blood glucose levels. Alternatively, you can cook it and eat it as a vegetable along with your meal.

Cinnamon - the dried and ground bark has been used as a natural diabetes treatment for centuries. Diabetics have trouble processing the glucose in their body. In trials, cinnamon seems to help the body’s fat cells utilize the glucose in the bloodstream which is why it appears to be so effective. Anything that helps the body to process glucose will be beneficial in normalizing blood glucose levels.

Chromium supplements - some health experts theorize that the soil used to grow crops today is severely deficient in many of the trace elements that used to naturally reside in the earth. One of these is chromium, which in some tests has shown to provide diabetes patients with substantial improvement from their diabetes symptoms. Chromium is believed to help the body produce insulin as well as to help the insulin already in the body to perform at a greater level of efficiency. As of today, however, there has been no government regulated trials to test the effectiveness of chromium on diabetes.

Kino - This medicinal herb has been used in Indian medicines for diabetes treatment for a long time as a treatment for diabetes.

Exercise - type 2 diabetes has become a real epidemic in this country. Many health experts lay the problem directly on the combination of them eating too much fast foods and lack of exercise. A theory, that many doctors subscribe to, is that too much body fat leads to diabetes in those that have a family history of diabetes. They believe that it is something about the excess fat that triggers the inability of the body to produce insulin or to use that insulin to process the foods they eat.

Pharmaceutical drugs have proven over many years that they are effective in treating diabetes. With natural herbs and supplements, however, there’s little documented history of their effectiveness. So, before taking any herbal treatment for diabetes, make sure you first talk it over with your primary health care physician.

Pornography, Dietary Supplements and the First Amendment

"...in 2002 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that large sections of the 1996 Child Pornography Prevention Act, including the depiction of virtual child porn, were overly broad and unconstitutional. Free speech advocates and pornographers had challenged the legality of the act, and six of the nine justices sided with them..."

Today pornographers have free reign. The federal courts routinely strike down any attempt to stop even the most vial pornography sites under the auspices of free speech.

The intent of this short article is to contrast the unrestricted free speech of pornographers shown by the above quote with the lack of free speech of millions of Americans are now denied because of the pharmaceutical medical monopoly that exists which aggressively restricts the right of Americans to have access to knowledge about the benefits of nutritional supplements.

On one hand, pornographers have unlimited free speech and on the other hand, millions of Americans and entrepreneurs have suffered the loss of basic 1st Amendment freedom and even physical raids by armed "jack booted thugs" from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).This is egregious state of affairs should make the average American's blood boil.

Just who supports the FDA in their ongoing attack against Americans 1st Amendment freedom? The Pharmaceutical companies, medical associations, doctors, medical journals, hospitals and numerous corrupt Congress creatures do so by supporting the FDA's blatant disregard for federal court decisions and the 1st Amendment. They condone the use of terrorism against the American people and, ultimately, support the continued use of police state tactics against innocent Americans who simply want truthful information about dietary supplement and the freedom to use supplements if they do desire.

A little history:

One of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was, Dr. Benjamin Rush, a doctor, educator and politician. Dr. Rush was a member of the Continental Congress and was a member of the Pennsylvania Convention that ratified the US Constitution. He became a professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and was a founder of the first American Antislavery society. Rush Medical College in Chicago is named after him.

In addition to Dr. Rush's amazing career in medicine he had one very significant idea that he wanted added to the Constitution's Bill of Rights. Dr. Rush believed that the right to Medical Freedom should be imprinted into the Bill of Rights and was just as important as the right to Freedom of Speech and Religion. His thoughts were incredibly accurate given today's political climate. The following is a quote from Dr. Rush's argument before the American Continental Congress:

"Unless we put Medical Freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship... to restrict the art of healing to one class of men, and deny equal privilege to others, will be to constitute the Bastille of Medical Science. All such laws are un-American and despotic, and have no place in a Republic...The Constitution of this Republic should make special privilege for Medical Freedom as well as Religious Freedom."

Unfortunately, the right to medical freedom was not added to the Bill of Rights in the Constitution, and now we have the government, medical and pharmaceutical groups working together to limit our health choices. In short, we have a monstrous medical monopoly enforced by the increasingly compromised and corrupt FDA along with the Federal Trade Commissions (FTC) which routinely censors truthful health claims.

Free Speech and Dietary Supplements

Mr. Speaker, I rise to introduce the Health Freedom Protection Act. This bill restores the First Amendment rights of consumers to receive truthful information regarding the benefits of foods and dietary supplements by codifying the First Amendment standards used by federal courts to strike down the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) efforts to censor truthful health claims. The Health Freedom Protection Act also stops the Federal Trade Commissions (FTC) from censoring truthful health care claims.

The American people have made it clear they do not want the federal government to interfere with their access to dietary supplements, yet the FDA and the FTC continue to engage in heavy-handed attempts to restrict such access. The FDA continues to frustrate consumers' efforts to learn how they can improve their health even after Congress, responding to a record number of constituents' comments, passed the Dietary Supplement and Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). FDA bureaucrats are so determined to frustrate consumer access to truthful information that they are even evading their duty to comply with four federal court decisions vindicating consumers' First Amendment rights to discover the health benefits of foods and dietary supplements.

FDA bureaucrats have even refused to abide by the DSHEA section allowing the public to have access to scientific articles and publications regarding the role of nutrients in protecting against diseases by claiming that every article concerning this topic is evidence of intent to sell a drug..... This edited version is from the speech of the HON. Ron Paul of Texas before the US House of Representatives in 2005.

Collusion and Corruption at the FDA

"According to a USA Today study, more than half of the experts hired to advise the government on the safety and effectiveness of medicine have financial relationships with the pharmaceutical companies that will be helped or hurt by their decisions. These experts are hired to advise the Food and Drug Administration on which medicines should be approved for sale, what the warning labels should say and how studies of drugs should be designed. The experts are supposed to be independent, but USA TODAY found that 54% of the time, they have a direct financial interest in the drug or topic they are asked to evaluate. These conflicts include helping a pharmaceutical company develop a medicine, then serving on an FDA advisory committee that judges the drug.

The conflicts typically include stock ownership, consulting fees or research grants.
Federal law generally prohibits the FDA from using experts with financial conflicts of interest, but according to the article, the FDA has waived the restriction more than 800 times since 1998." Note: An article by Dennis Cauchon, the USA TODAY Newspaper, Sept. 25, 2000

More heavy handed tactics and outrages, brought to you by the FDA

When it comes to health freedom, a new FDA document recently published on the FDA's website reveals plans to reclassify virtually all vitamins, supplements, herbs and even vegetable juices as regulated drugs. Who gave these unelected tyrannical bureaucrats the mandate to do this? How can they justify their efforts when in reality they are misleading and directly harming the public by refusing us our 1st Amendment freedom of speech related to dietary supplements that even Congress has stated in DSHEA that there is scientific evidence of a correlation between ingesting certain dietary supplement and improved health? How many millions of Americans have suffered from being kept in the dark about dietary supplements that could possibly improve someone's quality of life?

In addition, the FDA is protecting their pals at Big Pharma by the new preemption policy that bans private lawsuits against drug companies in state courts once a drug and its label have been approved by the FDA. This looks like a protection racket for their financiers at big Parma! This is simply outrageous!

The Solution

The HON. Ron Paul of Texas has said: Americans are justifiably concerned over the government's escalating intervention into their freedom to choose what they eat and how they take care of their health.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in order to comply with standards dictated by supra-national organizations such as the UN's World Food Code (CODEX), NAFTA, and CAFTA, has been assuming greater control over nutrients, vitamins and natural health care providers to restrict your right to choose the manner in which you manage your health and nutritional needs.

I have been the national leader in preserving Health Freedom.

I have introduced the Health Freedom Protection Act, HR 2117, to ensure Americans can receive truthful health information about supplements and natural remedies.

I support the Access to Medical Treatment Act, H.R. 2717, which expands the ability of Americans to use alternative medicine and new treatments.

I oppose legislation that increases the FDA's legal powers. FDA has consistently failed to protect the public from dangerous drugs, genetically modified foods, dangerous pesticides and other chemicals in the food supply. Meanwhile they waste public funds attacking safe, healthy foods and dietary supplements

I also opposed the Homeland Security Bill, H.R. 5005, which, in section 304, authorizes the forced vaccination of American citizens against small pox. The government should never have the power to require immunizations or vaccinations.

In Conclusion:

Who has more freedom of speech, pornographers or everyday Americans who want to access scientific knowledge about the benefits of dietary supplements? This outrage cannot continue to stand. Congress should immediately de-fund the FDA leviathan.

On the one hand, dietary supplements have millions of advocates who claim to have had an improved quality of life, while on the other hand, millions of Americans have been damaged by pornography along with the thousands of documented cases of rapes and murder tied to the use of pornography.

Congress creatures do not see the light until they feel the heat. Let's raise our collective voices and demand the passage of the Health Freedom Protection Act, HR 2117.

If follows from what has been said above that consumers of dietary supplements and the manufactures of supplements should have the same free speech protections that the pornographers have. Demand it!

Family Love and Medical Greed Can Be a Deadly Combination

Family Love and Medical Greed Can Be a Deadly Combination

The Pharmaceutical Drug Cartel and the FDA

According to the Los Angeles Times, the California Association of Physicians and Surgeons, and even the Center for Diseases Control's own admission, well over 100,000 people in this country die each year from "properly" administered prescription drugs. This is absolutely shocking!

One study has shown that more than two million American hospitalized patients suffered a serious adverse drug reaction (ADR) within a 12-month period and of these, over 100,000 died as a result. Likewise, roughly 36,000,000 adverse drug reactions are reported annually, resulting in more than 33.6-million admissions or hospitalizations all from drugs that the FDA has pronounced "safe effective."

The media is not doing a very good job of reporting this ADR crisis. Instead, we hear the constant media drumbeat about the dangers of firearms, which are currently politically incorrect yet represent a miniscule fraction of the deaths in this country. Doctors who want to politicize gun deaths should clean up their own glass houses first. The real crisis is the failing health care or more accurately described as the sick care system. There are numerous reasons for this crisis.

One reason is that conflicts of interest represent a very real problem for public servants and those entities which have relationships with various government agencies. Numerous researchers have reported that the FDA receives money from the very entities it is suppose to be regulating and one consequence of this is the suppression rather than advancement of disease cures. Consider the following:

Federal law generally prohibits the FDA from using experts with financial conflicts of interest, but according to the article, the FDA has waived the restriction more than 800 times since 1998." (1)

The corruption of undisclosed financial ties to the pharmaceutical companies by supposedly unbiased researchers along with the staggering cost involved in bringing new drugs to market, which conveniently eliminates competition from all but the cartel heavyweights has been sparingly reported in the mainstream press. Consider one exception to this silence:

In the book a "World Without Cancer" by G. Edward Griffin. Griffin describes the politics of cancer therapy, in which he blows the lid off the all powerful international chemical and drug cartel that has dominated the direction of health care since early in the Twentieth Century in the United States. Griffin argues that not only has the Rockefeller-Farben cartel (2) been instrumental in fostering chemical based drug treatment as the basis for health care and they have been the dominant adversary against safer non-drug treatments. If Griffin is correct, who is the FDA protecting and serving? Clearly, not the consumer!

It should be noted that pharmaceutical drugs have absolutely no nutritional value, and at best offer temporary relief of symptoms while doing nothing to address the root causes of disease. Additionally, pharmaceutical drugs should be used very carefully because of the toxicity factor also known as the LD50 rating. LD stands for "Lethal Dose" and LD50 is the amount of a drug, given, which causes the death of 50% of a group of laboratory test animals. Also, it is well known that drugs can damage the liver and kidneys.

Do not forget, as sited above, adverse drug reactions are responsible for over 100,000 deaths each year plus the pain and suffering for those lucky enough to survive an ADR. The way to good health does not necessarily include the ingestion of toxic chemicals. Likewise, the reason for disease is not that we are deficient or lacking in deadly debilitating pharmaceutical drugs. In many cases, disease is the result of nutritional deficiencies and the resulting weakening of the immune system.

The recent ongoing attempt to abolish and subvert the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994, which brought a measure of freedom back to consumers, in regards to their personal choices in the area of nutritional supplementation, should raise the ire of everyone who is concerned about their own health. This is an example of the pharmaceutical cartel and their political cronies within and along side of the FDA at work. Never forget, America is about freedom, especially freedom to make informed decisions concerning our own health care information, services we choose, our choice of treatments and products that we believe to be beneficial for our own health and wellbeing. See the National Health Freedom coalition web site (3)

36,000,000 adverse drug reactions and 100,000 deaths annually is a crisis!
